AbelsonTaylor Honors World Hunger Day; Donates to Heifer International’s holistic approach to end hunger, poverty
CHICAGO, Ill., May 28, 2015—It takes one act of kindness, one vision and one generous gift to help break the cycle of hunger and poverty. AbelsonTaylor marks the act on World Hunger Day, May 28, by announcing that its recent donation to Heifer International will be directed to the organization’s East Africa Dairy Development Project (EADD) in Tanzania. The donation will reach 1,428 families in Heifer’s EADD initiative.
Nearly one billion people still live in extreme hunger and poverty according to Heifer International. Hunger kills more people than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. It also kills nearly two million children each year. The EADD Initiative provides families a holistic approach to lift themselves out of poverty and hunger— livestock, education, empowerment and training.
“We know that health and wellness is intrinsically linked to the family’s ability to make a living,” said Dale Taylor, president and CEO of AbelsonTaylor. “Heifer addresses health and wellness by providing education, financial independence, and cultural empowerment. It’s a far better approach than what has been done historically, which is simply providing subsidies. Heifer’s EADD program works and supporting it is the right thing to do.”
The EADD is a multi-phase program that provides families the opportunity to create financial independence and social equality. EADD has connected more than 203,778 small-scale farmers across Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya to a larger circle of services that give them the collective resources to earn a living raising cows and selling milk. This, in turn, allows them to educate their children, gain access to healthcare and invest in their businesses.
“We know that entire communities will gain better access to food, good nutrition and health, more productive farms, improved incomes, and better quality of life because of AbelsonTaylor’s investment in EADD,” said Vicki Clarke, director of philanthropy-central region, for Heifer.
Announcing its donation to Heifer on World Hunger Day is another way for AbelsonTaylor to help raise awareness for the important work this nonprofit does to reduce hunger and poverty. The agency has been supporting Heifer International since 1999 and has helped nearly 530 families in Tanzania and Kenya. AbelsonTaylor has a long history of giving back to charitable organizations. Each year, the company identifies 12-15 nonprofit organizations and collaborates with them to help raise money, awareness or participation.
AbelsonTaylor is the largest independent medical advertising agency in the world, serving pharmaceutical, biotech and health-and-wellness companies globally. Since 1981, the agency has remained singularly focused on brands that help people live healthier lives.
